Puckett and L. Cox report the discovery of a supernova (mag 17.2) on an unfiltered CCD frame (limiting mag 19.0) taken with the 0.35-m automated patrol telescope on Oct. 13.13 UT (and confirmed on CCD frames taken by Cox on Oct. 16.07). The new object is located at R.A. = 0h05m48s.47, Decl. = +27 27'09".6 (equinox 2000.0), which is 1".2 east and 11".3 north of the center of UGC 40. SN 2003it was not present on Palomar Sky Survey images taken during 1991-1993.
