Arbour, South Wonston, Hants., England, reports his discovery of an apparent supernova in the galaxy MCG +09-25-004 on an unfiltered CCD image taken on Sept. 14.8702 UT using a 0.3-m f/6.3 Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope and Starlight Xpress CCD camera in the course of his supernova patrol. The object, of unfiltered mag approximately 16.8 (the frame's limiting mag being about 18.0), was located at R.A. = 14h59m51s.79, Decl. = +54o37'06".1 (equinox 2000), or 9".9 west and 2".7 south of the galaxy's nucleus. The object was confirmed by T. Boles, Coddenham, Suffolk, on Sept. 14.9434 (unfiltered mag 17.2) and around the same time by D. Briggs, near Portsmouth, who gave the end figures as 51s.84, 05".7. Arbour also recorded the object on Sept. 15.8222, again at mag about 16.8. The object was not present on Arbour's patrol frame of Aug. 6.9195 or on a frame obtained by Boles on Mar. 30. The object is also not present on the Digitized Sky Survey POSS II blue and red plates taken in 1994 and 1991, respectively.
