Monard, Pretoria, South Africa, reports his discovery of an apparent supernova (mag about 17.2 +/- 0.2) on unfiltered CCD images taken with a 0.30-m reflector on Jan. 28.803 UT (a confirming image taken on Jan. 29.757 showed the new object at mag about 17.1 +/- 0.2). SN 2005Q is located at R.A. = 1h30m03s.51, Decl. = -42o40'48".4 (equinox 2000.0), which is 22" west and 20" north of the nucleus of ESO 244-G31. Nothing is visible at this location on a Digitized Sky Survey image (limiting red mag 20.5) or on images taken by Monard on 2004 Dec. 30.814 and earlier (limiting red mag 18.7).
