Ponticello and R. J. Foley report the LOSS discovery of a variable star (possible supernova) of mag 17.2 near IC 1309 on KAIT images taken on Aug. 2.30 and 3.31 UT. The new object is located at R.A. = 20h03m00s.24, Decl. = -17o12'11".4 (equinox 2000.0), which is 17".5 west and 103".4 north of the nucleus of IC 1309. A KAIT image taken on July 29.31 showed a hint of the object at mag about 18.8, while a KAIT image taken on July 28.32 showed nothing at this position (limiting magnitude about 19.0).
