Kirshner, and P. Challis, Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics, report that a spectrogram (range 350-740 nm) of SN 2006O (cf. IAUC 8662), obtained on Jan. 25.13 UT by M. Calkins with the F. L. Whipple Observatory 1.5-m telescope (+ FAST), shows it to be most probably a young type-II supernova. The spectrum consists of a featureless and blue continuum and is similar to an early spectrum of SN 1993J (Matheson et al. 2000, A.J. 120, 1487). Superposed on the continuum are narrow emission lines from the host galaxy (UGC 633), corresponding to the following (given by increasing wavelength): [O II], H_beta, [O III] doublet, H_alpha, [N II], [S II] doublet. The recession velocity of UGC 633 at the supernova position (computed using these lines) is 5726 +/- 21 km/s, or approximately 150 km/s greater than the NED value (5573 +/- 6 km/s; from Huchra et al. 1999, Ap.J. Suppl. 121, 287) for the galaxy nucleus. NOTE: These 'Central Bureau Electronic Telegrams' are sometimes superseded by text appearing later in the printed IAU Circulars.
