Ponticello and W. Li report the LOSS discovery of an apparent supernova (mag 19.0) on an unfiltered KAIT image taken on Feb. 24.56 UT. SN 2006ay is located at R.A. = 15h59m12s.76, Decl. = +20 44'27".9 (equinox 2000.0), which is 12".2 east and 22".7 south of the nucleus of the southeast component of UGC 10116 (a group of six galaxies also known as "Seyfert's Sextet"). S. Gonzalez, Las Campanas Observatory, confirmed the new object at mag about 20 on a V-band image taken with the 1.0-m Swope telescope on Mar. 21.26. KAIT images taken on 2002 July 7.30 (limiting mag 19.8) and 2006 Feb. 10.56 (limiting mag 18.8) showed nothing at this positon. Nothing is visible at this location on the Digitized Sky Survey (limiting red mag about 21), and a comparison of the DSS image with the KAIT discovery image can be viewed at http://hercules.berkeley.edu/ugc10116.gif.
