Puckett report the discovery of an apparent supernova (mag 18.3) on CCD images taken with a 0.40-m reflector at Portal, AZ, on May 8.27 UT in the course of the Puckett Observatory Supernova Search. The new object was confirmed at mag 18.2 by A. Sehgal on May 9.23 with 0.50-m reflector at Osoyoos, BC. SN 2006cd is located at R.A. = 16h05m22s.06, Decl. = +17o45'05".5 (equinox 2000.0), which is 5".6 west and 11".4 south of the center of IC 1179. Nothing is visible at this location on images taken by Puckett on 2005 Sept. 9 (limiting mag 19.7). D. R. Madison and W. Li report the independent LOSS discovery of 2006cd on unfiltered KAIT images (cf. IAUC 8707) taken on May 8.44 (at mag 18.2) and 9.45 UT (mag 18.1). Their position for SN 2006cd is R.A. = 16h05m22s.01, Decl. = +17o45'04".2 (equinox 2000.0), which is 3".0 west and 11".2 south of the center of IC 1179, the southwest component of Arp 272 (the northeast component being NGC 6050). A KAIT image taken on Feb. 23.45 showed nothing at this position (limiting mag 19.5).
