Electronic Telegram No. 613 Central Bureau for Astronomical Telegrams INTERNATIONAL ASTRONOMICAL UNION M.S. 18, Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, Cambridge, MA 02138, U.S.A. IAUSUBS@CFA.HARVARD.EDU or FAX 617-495-7231 (subscriptions) CBAT@CFA.HARVARD.EDU (science) URL http://cfa-www.harvard.edu/iau/cbat.html SUPERNOVA 2006es IN UGC 2828 Further to IAUC 8741, J. Schwehr and W. Li report the LOSS discovery of an apparent supernova on unfiltered KAIT images, the position of 2006es given as R.A. = 3h42m24s.48, Decl. = +39o14'31".0 (equinox 2000.0), which is 5".1 east and 8".3 south of the center of UGC 2828. Available magnitudes for 2006es: Feb. 14.20 UT, [19.5; Aug. 14.53, 17.0 (under poor seeing conditions); Sept. 1.54, 18.0. A. V. Filippenko, D. S. Wong, M. Ganeshalingam, M. Moore, and R. J. Foley, University of California, Berkeley, report that inspection of CCD spectra (range 330-1040 nm), obtained on Sept. 2 UT with the Shane 3-m telescope (+ Kast) at Lick Observatory, shows that 2006es is a type-Ia supernova, about 3-4 weeks past maximum brightness. The recession velocity of the host galaxy is 12250 km/s, based on narrow H II-region emission lines.
