Kirshner, and P. Challis, Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics, report that spectra (range 350-740 nm) of SN 2006el (cf. IAUC 8741), obtained on Sept. 16.26, 17.19, and 18.28 UT by M. Calkins with the F. L. Whipple Observatory 1.5-m telescope (+ FAST), show 2006el to be most similar to the type-IIb supernova 2006T (cf. CBET 425) at two weeks past maximum light. SN 2006el was classified both as a peculiar type-Ib event by Blondin et al. (cf. CBET 612) and as a a type-IIb event by Filippenko et al. (cf. CBET 614). Blueshifted absorption features due to H_alpha and H_beta are clearly seen in these three additional spectra, thereby confirming the type-IIb identification given by Filippenko et al. on CBET 614. Adopting a recession velocity of 5150 km/s for the host galaxy (from Huchra et al. 1999, Ap.J. Suppl. 121, 287), the maximum absorption in the H_beta line is blueshifted by roughly 11500 km/s.
