Depoy, Ohio State University; and P. Garnavich, University of Notre Dame, report that spectra of 2006gz (cf. IAUC 8754) were obtained with the Hiltner 2.4-m telescope (+ CCDS spectrograph) at MDM Observatory on Sept. 28.1 UT. The reduced spectra show a blue continuum with broad absorption features, consistent with a type-Ia supernova. Si II (635 nm) and S II (547, 563 nm) are clearly present, but the widths of the S II features are narrow compared to that seen in spectra of a normal type-Ia supernova, and the Si II feature shows an extrordinay double absorption. Assuming a recession velocity for the host galaxy of 8398 km/s (Haynes and Giovanelli 1997, A.J. 113, 1197), the minima of the Si II absorptions occur at 15000 and 6500 km/s. Further observations of this unusual event are urged. NOTE: These 'Central Bureau Electronic Telegrams' are sometimes superseded by text appearing later in the printed IAU Circulars.
