Electronic Telegram No. 778 Central Bureau for Astronomical Telegrams INTERNATIONAL ASTRONOMICAL UNION M.S. 18, Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, Cambridge, MA 02138, U.S.A. IAUSUBS@CFA.HARVARD.EDU or FAX 617-495-7231 (subscriptions) CBAT@CFA.HARVARD.EDU (science) URL http://cfa-www.harvard.edu/iau/cbat.html SUPERNOVA 2006st IN NGC 4017 Further to IAUC 8782, D. Winslow and W. Li report the LOSS discovery on unfiltered KAIT images of an apparent supernova located at R.A. = 11h58m40s.97, Decl. = +27o27'37".6 (equinox 2000.0), which is 63" west and 29" north of the center of NGC 4017. Available KAIT magnitudes for 2006st: May 30.23 UT, [19.0; Dec. 18.57, 18.3; 19.53, 18.4. Further to IAUC 8782, J. M. Silverman, M. Ganeshalingam, M. Moore, and A. V. Filippenko, University of California, Berkeley, report that inspection of CCD spectra (range 330-1050 nm), obtained on Dec. 20 UT with the Lick 3-m telescope (+ Kast), shows that 2006st is a type-II supernova. Removing the recession velocity of 4900 km/s, determined from the H-beta emission line, the absorption minima of the P-Cyg profiles of H-alpha and H-beta are measured to be blueshifted by about 3700 km/s and 2800 km/s, respectively.
