Hamuy, University of Chile; and G. Folatelli, Las Campanas Observatory, on behalf of the Carnegie Supernova Project, report a spectroscopic observation (range 350-530 nm) of 2007S (cf. CBET 825), obtained on Jan. 31.32 UT with the La European Southern Observatory 3.5-m New Technology Telescope (+ EMMI spectrograph). This spectrum closely resembles that of a young type-Ia supernova, although the limited wavelength coverage does not allow confirmation of the the presence of absorption due to Si II 635.5-nm. The spectrum is similar to those of SN 1999ee at one week before maximum light (assuming the recession velocity of 4161 km/s for the host galaxy; de Vaucouleurs 1991, Third Reference Catalogue of Bright Galaxies). The blue continuum of the spectrum suggests that there is no strong reddening.
