IAUSUBS@CFA.HARVARD.EDU or FAX 617-495-7231 (subscriptions) CBAT@CFA.HARVARD.EDU (science) URL http://cfa-www.harvard.edu/iau/cbat.html SUPERNOVA 2007T IN NGC 5828 S. Benetti, A. Harutyunyan, M. Turatto, and E. Cappellaro, Istituto Nazionale di Astrofisica, Osservatorio Astronomico di Padova; and A. Magazzu', Telescopio Nazionale Galileo (TNG), report that a spectrum of 2007T (cf. CBET 833), obtained on Feb. 7.21 UT with the 3.5-m TNG (+ DOLORES; range 330-810 nm, resolution 1.8 nm), shows it to be a type-II supernova caught a few days after explosion. The spectrum consists of a blue continuum (T_bb about 12700 K) superimposed by P-Cyg profiles of H-beta, H-gamma, and He I 587.5-nm lines. H-alpha is present, mostly with a broad (FWHM about 10400 km/s) emission profile. Adopting a recession velocity of 4071 km/s of the parent galaxy (from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey data release 3, via NED), the expansion velocity deduced from the H-beta minimum is about 9600 km/s.
