Electronic Telegram No. 872 Central Bureau for Astronomical Telegrams INTERNATIONAL ASTRONOMICAL UNION M.S. 18, Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, Cambridge, MA 02138, U.S.A. IAUSUBS@CFA.HARVARD.EDU or FAX 617-495-7231 (subscriptions) CBAT@CFA.HARVARD.EDU (science) URL http://cfa-www.harvard.edu/iau/cbat.html POSSIBLE SUPERNOVA NEAR UGC 4378 Further to IAUC 8813, D. Winslow and W. Li report the discovery of a possible supernova in the field of UGC 4378 on unfiltered KAIT images taken on Mar. 6.27 (at mag 18.9) and 9.20 UT (mag 19.0). The new object is located at R.A. = 8h25m23s.80, Decl. = +69o54'29".4 (equinox 2000.0), which is 25".5 west and 26".0 north of the center of UGC 4378, but the variable star is superimposed on a faint background galaxy. A KAIT image taken on 2006 Dec. 18.43 showed nothing at this position (limiting mag 19.5).
