Kirshner, and P. Challis, Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics, report that a spectrum (range 350-740 nm) of 2007ag (cf. CBET 868), obtained on Mar. 10.34 UT by R. Hutchins with the F. L. Whipple Observatory 1.5-m telescope (+ FAST), shows it to be a type-Ib supernova around maximum light. The spectrum shows conspicuous lines of He I (rest 447.1 and 587.6 nm) and is most similar to that of the type-Ib supernova 2005hg (cf. CBET 271) at one day before maximum light. The spectrum appears to be slightly reddened, although interstellar Na I absorption at the redshift of the host galaxy cannot be reliably detected due to the moderate signal-to-noise ratio.
