Kumar, and B. Mathew, Indian Institute of Astrophysics, report that a spectrum (range 360-910 nm) of 2007fb (cf. CBET 992), obtained on July 5.9 UT with the Indian Astronomical Observatory's 2-m Himalayan Chandra Telescope (+ HFOSC), shows it to be a normal type-Ia supernova. The spectrum is similar to that of SN 2003du about one week before maximum light in the B band (Anupama et al. 2005, A.Ap. 429, 667). Adopting a recession velocity of 5400 km/s for the host galaxy (de Vaucouleurs et al. 1991, Third Reference Catalogue of Bright Galaxies), the blue-shifted velocity of the Si II 635.5-nm absorption is estimated as approximately 11300 km/s.
