Ganeshalingam, F. J. D. Serduke, and A. V. Filippenko, University of California, Berkeley, report that inspection of CCD spectra (range 330-1000 nm), obtained on June 9 UT with the 3-m Shane reflector (+ Kast) at Lick Observatory, shows that the possible supernova reported on CBET 976 is in fact a type-II supernova. The relatively-low-quality spectrum shows H-alpha having a P-Cyg profile. Removing a host-galaxy recession velocity of 5495 km/s, calculated from narrow emission lines, the minimum of the H-alpha absorption is blueshifted by about 4300 km/s.
