Electronic Telegram No. 1005 Central Bureau for Astronomical Telegrams INTERNATIONAL ASTRONOMICAL UNION M.S. 18, Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, Cambridge, MA 02138, U.S.A. IAUSUBS@CFA.HARVARD.EDU or FAX 617-495-7231 (subscriptions) CBAT@CFA.HARVARD.EDU (science) URL http://www.cfa.harvard.edu/iau/cbat.html SUPERNOVA 2007ft in NGC 4677 J. Isler, Fisk University; K. van der Heyden and B. A. Bassett, South African Astronomical Observatory (SAAO); L.-G. Strolger, Western Kentucky University; and R. A. Knop, Vanderbilt University, report that a spectrum (range 420-700 nm) of 2007ft (cf. CBET 1004), obtained on July 17.79 UT with the SAAO Radcliffe 1.9-m telescope (+ CCD with grating spectrograph), shows it to be a type-Ia supernova within 1 day of maximum light. Cross-correlation with a library of supernova spectra indicates that 2007ft is similar to the type-Ia supernova 1986G. Removing the NED recession velocity of 3107 km/s for the host galaxy, the minimum of the 635.5-nm Si II absorption is blueshifted by roughly 10500 km/s.
