Yamaoka, Kyushu University, reports the discovery by Koichi Itagaki (Yamagata, Japan) of a new object (mag 16.7) on many unfiltered CCD images taken on Aug. 24.481 UT with a 0.60-m reflector; the apparent supernova was confirmed by Itagaki on his prediscovery image taken on Aug. 20.512, when it was at mag about 17, and there was nothing present at this location to limiting mag 19.0 on an image taken on Feb. 19. The new object is located at R.A. = 12h11m34s.60, Decl. = +57d44'15".9 (equinox 2000.0), which is 9".5 east and 1".0 north of the nucleus of NGC 4161. Note that the type-Ib supernova 2006dk also appeared in NGC 4161 (cf. CBET 561, IAUC 8727).
