IAUSUBS@CFA.HARVARD.EDU or FAX 617-495-7231 (subscriptions) CBAT@CFA.HARVARD.EDU (science) URL http://www.cfa.harvard.edu/iau/cbat.html SUPERNOVA 2007ry R. Chornock, F. J. D. Serduke, X. Wang, and A. V. Filippenko, University of California, Berkeley, report that CCD spectra (range 330-1030 nm) of 2007ry (CBET 1158), obtained on Dec. 11.5 UT with the Kast spectrograph on the Shane 3-m telescope at Lick Observatory, reveals that the object is a supernova of type Ia. Narrow emission lines from the anonymous host galaxy give a redshift of 0.048. The spectrum is contaminated by light from the host galaxy due to poor seeing, but spectral features similar to those of SN 1994D at an age of about 10-14 days after maximum light are present.
