Marion, University of Texas and Texas State University; and P. Challis, S. Blondin, and R. Kirshner, Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics, report that they obtained spectra of SN 2007qe (cf. CBET 1138, 1145) and its host galaxy using the MMT (+ Blue Channel spectrograph) on Dec. 14.1 UT. The spectrum of the host galaxy shows weak H_alpha emission at 671.97 nm and Ca II H and K absorption corresponding to z = 0.024. This is more than twice the redshift derived from the supernova spectrum (CBET 1138) and suggests a higher-than-typical expansion velocity. With this revised redshift, Garnavich et al. re- interpret the IRTF near-infrared spectrum taken on Nov. 16.3 (CBET 1145) and find a Ca II expansion velocity of 28500 +/- 1500 km/s.
