Nakano, Sumoto, Japan, reports the discovery of an apparent supernova (mag 17.6) by Yoshimi Ichimura (Yoshimi-machi, Hiki-gun, Saitama-ken, Japan) on numerous unfiltered CCD frames taken around Jan. 2.54 UT with a 0.28-m f/8.1 Schmidt-Cassegrain reflector (limiting mag 19.3); Ichimura adds that the new object is 16".6 west and 20".2 north of the center of NGC 634, and that nothing was visible at this location on a frame taken on 2007 Nov. 18 (limiting magnitude 18.5) or on a frame taken by K. Itagaki (Teppo-cho, Yamagata, Japan, 0.30-m reflector) on 2006 Aug. 20 (limiting mag 18.5). Nakano provides his measurements of 2008A from a jpeg image (limiting mag 19.0) from Ichimura taken on 2008 Jan. 2.592: mag 16.9; R.A. = 1h38m17s.38, Decl. = +35o22'13".7 (equinox 2000.0), which is 14".6 west and 18".9 north of the center of NGC 634. K. Kadota (Ageo, Japan) writes that nothing is visible at this position on a red Digitized Sky Survey image from 1989. Additional magnitudes for 2008A: 2008 Jan. 3.391, 16.7 (Itagaki; position end figures 17s.49, 13".2); 3.401, 16.7 (Y. Hirose, Kanagawa-ken, Japan); 3.458, 17.0 (Kadota; position end figures 17s.48, 13".0); 3.525, 17.5 (Ichimura). SN 2006Q also appeared in NGC 634 (cf. IAUC 8664; CBET 377).
