Nakano, Sumoto, Japan, reports the discovery by Koichi Itagaki (Teppo-cho, Yamagata, Japan) of an apparent supernova (mag 16.4) on unfiltered CCD frames (limiting magnitude 18.5) taken around Jan. 2.84 UT using a 0.30-m f/7.8 reflector at his Takanezawa station at Tochigi-ken; a confirming image taken on Jan. 3.753 by Itagaki yielded mag 16.6. Itagaki's measured position for 2008B is R.A. = 15h02m43s.65 +/- 0s.01, Decl. = +23o20'07".8 +/- 0".2 (equinox 2000.0), which is 23" east and 7" north of the center of NGC 5829. Nothing is visible at this location on CCD frames taken by Itagaki on 2007 Feb. 25 and earlier (limiting mag 18.5). K. Kadota (Ageo, Japan) reports mag 16.7 and position end figures 43s.64, 07".7 for 2008B from his CCD image taken on Jan. 3.763; he adds that nothing is visible at this location on a red Digitized Sky Survey image from 1991 (limiting magnitude 18.6).
