Silva, P. Gonzalez, G. Pignata, J. Maza, M. Hamuy, R. Antezana, and L. Gonzalez, Universidad de Chile; and D. Reichart, K. Ivarsen, A. Crain, D. Foster, M. Nysewander, and A. LaCluyze, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill; on the behalf of the CHASE project, report the discovery of an apparent supernova (mag approximately 17.0) on unfiltered images obtained on Jan. 22.1 UT with the 41-cm "PROMPT 2" telescope at Cerro Tololo Interamerican Observatory. The new object is located at R.A. = 6h57m34s.46 +/- 0s.02, Decl. = -45o48'44".3 +/- 0".1 (equinox 2000), which is about 9".6 west and 1".3 south of the nucleus of the galaxy ESO 256-G11. The new object is also present in an unfiltered image taken on Jan. 23.1 (mag approximately 16.9), but nothing is visible at this position on unfiltered images obtained with the "PROMPT 2" telescope on 2007 Dec. 24.15 (limiting magnitude 18.8).
