Boles, Coddenham, England, reports the discovery of an apparent supernova (mag 18.5) on an unfiltered CCD image taken on Feb. 12.774 UT with a 0.35-m reflector; confirming images obtained on Feb. 15.766 yield mag 18.6. The new object is located at R.A. = 3h09m25s.20 +/- 0s.03, Decl. = +80o07'48".4 +/- 0".1 (equinox 2000.0), which is approximately 17".0 east and 1".8 south of the center of UGC 2519. Boles measures end figures 25s.01, 48".0 from a confirming image acquired by E. Pettarin (Farra d'Isonzo, Italy, 0.40-m reflector) on Feb. 14.743. Nothing is present at this position on Boles' images from 2007 Nov. 15 and Dec. 16 (limiting mag 19.5) or on Digitized Sky Survey plates from 1994 Oct. 10 (limiting red mag 20.5) and 1994 Oct. 5 (limiting blue mag 21.0). A. Dimai, Cortina d'Ampezzo, Italy, on behalf of the CROSS program (cf. IAUC 7373), reports the independent discovery of 2008ak (at mag about 16.7; later revised to 17.5) by Elisa Londero (Gemona, Italy) in two unfiltered CCD images (limiting magnitude about 18.5) taken with the 0.5-m "Ullrich" telescope of the Col Drusci Observatory on Feb. 13.75 UT, providing position end figures 24s.76, 51".0 (offset about 14" east and 0".5 south of the galaxy's nucleus). Confirming images (limiting mag 19.0) on Feb. 15.75 yield mag about 17.0 for 2008ak; position end figures provided with the confirmation e-mail are 25s.15, 48".2 (offset 14" east, 1".5 south). CROSS images of the same field taken on 2007 Dec. 19 showed nothing at this position (limiting mag about 19.0), and it does not appear on Palomar Sky Survey infrared, red, and blue plates.
