IAUSUBS@CFA.HARVARD.EDU or FAX 617-495-7231 (subscriptions) CBAT@CFA.HARVARD.EDU (science) URL http://www.cfa.harvard.edu/iau/cbat.html VARIABLE OBJECT NEAR UGC 2700 Further to CBET 1265, W. Li and A. V. Filippenko report the LOSS discovery of a variable object in the field of UGC 2700 on unfiltered KAIT images taken on Feb. 17.15 (at mag 16.7) and 19.18 UT (mag 16.8). The new object is located at R.A. = 3h22m50s.43, Decl. = +42o31'03".7 (equinox 2000.0), which is 37".9 west and 128".2 south of the nucleus of UGC 2770. A KAIT image taken on Jan. 14.18 showed nothing at this location (limiting mag 18.9). There is a faint, possibly extended object at this location on Digitized Sky Survey red-plate images. Spectroscopic observations are encouraged to determine the nature of this object (a Galactic variable, supernova, or active galactic nucleus).
