Mostardi, W. Li and A. V. Filippenko, University of California at Berkeley, report the LOSS discovery of an apparent supernova on unfiltered KAIT images: SN 2008 UT R.A. (2000.0) Decl. Mag. Malkan, University of California, Los Angeles; and J. M. Silverman, T. N. Steele, and A. V. Filippenko, University of California, Berkeley, report that inspection of a CCD spectrum (range 330-1050 nm), obtained on Apr. 1 UT with the Shane 3-m reflector (+ Kast spectrograph) at Lick Observatory, shows that 2008bn is a young type-II supernova. The spectrum consists of a nearly featureless, blue continuum. Very narrow hydrogen Balmer emission may be from a superposed H II region, although a contribution from supernova circumstellar material is also possible.
