IAUSUBS@CFA.HARVARD.EDU or FAX 617-495-7231 (subscriptions) CBAT@CFA.HARVARD.EDU (science) URL http://www.cfa.harvard.edu/iau/cbat.html SUPERNOVA 2008bo IN NGC 6643 Markku Nissinen, Varkaus, Finland, reports the discovery of an apparent supernova (mag 16.6) on unfiltered and Bessel-R-band CCD images (limiting unfiltered mag 19.5) taken over two hours, obtained by Veli-Pekka Hentunen and himself with a 30.5-cm Meade LX200 f/10 telescope (+ SBIG ST8-XME camera) beginning at Mar. 31.92 UT at Taurus Hill Observatory, Karhilantaipaleentie; a confirming image on Apr. 1.827 yields R = 16.6 for 2008bo. The new object is located at R.A. = 18h19m54s.34, Decl. = +74o34'20".9 (equinox 2000.0), which is 31" east and 15" north of the center of NGC 6643. Nothing is visible at this position on a Palomar Sky Survey red image (limiting mag 20.8). A. Oksanen, Muurame, Finland, adds that his unfiltered CCD exposures taken with a 40-cm telescope on Apr. 1.050 and 2.788 yield red magnitudes 16.5 and 16.3, and position end figures 54s.40 +/- 0s.02, 21".4 +/- 0".2 for 2008bo; Oksanen's image from Apr. 1 is available at the following website URL: http://murtoinen.dyndns.org/ccd/Arto/ngc6643/.
