Harutyunyan, I. Agnoletto, F. Bufano, and E. Cappellaro, Istituto Nazionale di Astrofisica (INAF), Padova; and M. Turatto, INAF, Catania, report that a spectrogram (range 360-780 nm, resolution 2.4 nm) of 2008bo (cf. CBET 1324), obtained on Apr. 3.12 UT with the Ekar-Copernicus 1.82-m telescope (+ AFOSC), shows it to be a stripped-envelope supernova. The spectrum is dominated by a very deep H-alpha absorption, from which an expansion velocity of about 12300 km/s is derived, assuming a recession velocity of 1483 km/s (Davis and Seaquist 1983, Ap.J. Suppl. 53, 269; via LEDA) for the host galaxy. The spectrum shows also intense Fe II lines. The 'PASSparToo' spectrum-comparison code (Harutyunyan et al. 2005, ASP Conf. Ser. 342, 258) provides good fits to SN 2008ax about a week after discovery. SN 2008ax was first classified as a peculiar type-II (CBET 1285) or type-IIb (CBET 1298) supernova but, about a week later, its spectra were more resembling those of a type-Ib supernova (CBETs 1305, 1309).
