Electronic Telegram No. 1335 Central Bureau for Astronomical Telegrams INTERNATIONAL ASTRONOMICAL UNION M.S. 18, Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, Cambridge, MA 02138, U.S.A. IAUSUBS@CFA.HARVARD.EDU or FAX 617-495-7231 (subscriptions) CBAT@CFA.HARVARD.EDU (science) URL http://www.cfa.harvard.edu/iau/cbat.html SUPERNOVAE 2008bk AND 2008br N. Morrell and M. Stritzinger, on behalf of the Carnegie Supernova Project, report that they obtained spectra (range 380-924 nm) of 2008bk (cf. CBET 1315) and 2008br (cf. CBET 1332) with the Las Campanas Observatory DuPont telescope (+ WFCCD) on Apr. 12.4 and 12.1 UT, respectively. Both events are type-II supernovae and a few weeks past explosion. Adopting a host-galaxy recession velocity of 227 km/s for NGC 7793 and 3019 km/s for IC 2522 (Koribalski et al. 2004, A.J. 128, 16), Morrell and Stritzinger measure, from the minimum of the H-beta absorptions, expansion velocities of 4100 km/s for 2008bk and 5000 km/s for 2008br. Comparison with a library of supernova spectra (SUPERFIT spectra-comparison tool; Howell et al. 2005, Ap.J. 634, 1190) yields a good match to SN 1999em at 36 days after explosion for 2008bk, and to 1993W at 20 days after explosion for 2008br.
