Woo, University of California, Santa Barbara; N. Bennert, University of California, Riverside; and J. M. Silverman and A. V. Filippenko, University of California, Berkeley, report that inspection of a CCD spectrum (range 330-1050 nm), obtained on May 4 UT with the Shane 3-m telescope at Lick Observatory, reveals that 2008ce (CBETs 1363, 1364) is a type-II supernova. The spectrum exhibits hydrogen Balmer lines having P-Cyg profiles. Removing the host-galaxy recession velocity of 2779 km/s, calculated from narrow emission lines, the minimum of the H-alpha absorption is blueshifted by about 7000 km/s. J.-H. Woo, R. A. Street, and M. G. Hidas, University of California, Santa Barbara; and J. M. Silverman, T. N. Steele, and A. V. Filippenko, University of California, Berkeley, report that inspection of a CCD spectrum (range 360-920 nm), obtained as above on May 7 UT, reveals that 2008cf (CBET 1365) is a type-Ia supernova near maximum brightness. Removing a host-galaxy recession velocity of 13800 km/s (from a narrow emission lines), the minimum of the Si II 635.5-nm absorption feature is found to be blueshifted by about 11000 km/s.
