Morrell, on behalf of the Carnegie Supernova Project, reports that a spectrogram (range 357-977 nm) of 2008cq (cf. CBET 1388) was obtained on June 4.18 UT with the du Pont 2.5-m telescope (+ Boller and Chivens spectrograph) at Las Campanas Observatory. Subsequent analysis via the Supernova Identification (Bolondin and Tonry 2007, Ap.J. 666, 1024) and 'superfit' (Howell et al. 2005, Ap.J. 634, 1190) spectral-comparison tools reveals that the spectrum of 2008cq is consistent with that of a normal type-Ia supernova at a redshfit z = 0.006 +/- 0.002, between 1.5 and 2 months past maximum light, and very similar to the spectra of 2005ki, 1996X, and 1994D at 46, 57, and 54 days, respectively.
