Morrell, on behalf of the Carnegie Supernova Project, reports that a spectrum (range 370-950 nm) of 2008da (cf. CBET 1406), obtained on June 15.37 UT with the Magellan I Baade telescope (+ IMACS) at Las Campanas Observatory, shows this to be a young type-II supernova. Comparison with a library of supernovae spectra via the 'Supernova Identification' code (SNID; Blondin and Tonry 2007, Ap.J. 666, 1024) suggests that 2008da is very similar to 1999em and 2004et at two weeks after explosion. Adopting for NGC 6845A the NED recession velocity of 6356 km/s (Gordon et al. 2003, MNRAS 342, 939), an expansion velocity of 7500 km/s is derived from the minimum of the H_beta absorption.
