Puckett, Ellijay, GA, U.S.A.; and R. Gagliano, Cottonwood, AZ, U.S.A., report the discovery of an apparent supernova (mag 17.4) on unfiltered CCD images (limiting mag 19.1) taken with a 0.35-m reflector at Ellijay on July 2.21 UT in the course of the Puckett Observatory Supernova Search. The new object was confirmed at mag 17.4 on images (limiting mag 19.1) taken by T. Orff on July 3.11 with a 0.60-m reflector at Ellijay. SN 2008dz is located at R.A. = 13h23m11s.92, Decl. = +43o05'34".3 (equinox 2000.0), which is 1".4 east and 23".9 north of the center of NGC 5123.
