Pritchet, and D. Balam, Department of Physics and Astronomy, University of Victoria, report that a spectrum (range 390-703 nm, resolution 0.3 nm) of 2008eb (cf. CBET 1433), obtained on July 9.40 UT with the 1.82-m Plaskett Telescope of the National Research Council of Canada, shows it to be a type-Ic supernova several days past past maximum. Cross-correlation with a library of supernova spectra using the"Supernova Identification" code (Blondin and Tonry 2007, Ap.J. 666, 1024) indicates that 2008eb is most similar to the type-Ic supernova 1997ef at 6 days past maximum light. A. Harutyunyan, E. Cappellaro, and S. Benetti, Istituto Nazionale di Astrofisica, Osservatorio Astronomico di Padova; and V. Lorenzi, Telescopio Nazionale Galileo (TNG), report that a spectrum of 2008eb, obtained on July 9.13 UT with the 3.5-m TNG (+ DOLORES; range 360-775 nm, resolution 1.3 nm), shows it to be a type-Ic supernova. The best fit to this spectrum found by GELATO (Harutyunyan et al. 2008, http://lanl.arxiv.org/abs/0804.1939) is with that of SN 2004aw at 8 days after maximum (Taubenberger et al. 2006, MNRAS 371, 1459). Typical P-Cyg profiles due to Ca II H and K, Mg II, Na I, and Si II are present in the spectrum. Similar to 2004aw, there is an evidence of some extinction in 2008eb: the interstellar absorption of Na I D with an equivalent width of about 0.14 nm is measured in the spectrum.
