Colesanti, E. Pimentel, T. Napoleao, and himself on an unfiltered CCD image (limiting magnitude 18.5) taken on Aug. 9.17 UT with a 0.30-m Schmidt-Cassegrain f/3 reflector at the CEAMIG-REA Observatory in the course of the Brazilian Supernovae Search Team survey; a confirming image on Aug. 10.10 shows 2008eu at mag 15.8. The new object is located at R.A. = 22h16m44s.39, Decl. = -47o07'12".6 (equinox 2000.0), which is 22" east and 9" south of the center of the galaxy ESO 289-G10. Nothing is visible at this position on a CCD image taken on 2005 Aug. 6 (limiting mag 19.0) or on a red Digitized Sky Survey image from 1990.
