Electronic Telegram No. 1471 Central Bureau for Astronomical Telegrams INTERNATIONAL ASTRONOMICAL UNION M.S. 18, Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, Cambridge, MA 02138, U.S.A. IAUSUBS@CFA.HARVARD.EDU or FAX 617-495-7231 (subscriptions) CBAT@CFA.HARVARD.EDU (science) URL http://www.cfa.harvard.edu/iau/cbat.html SUPERNOVAE 2008ev AND 2008ew C. Gall and J. Fynbo, Dark Cosmology Center, Niels Bohr Institute, Copenhagen University, and their students K. Falkenberg, B. Frederiksen, and M. Sparre report, together with J. Sollerman (Stockholm University), on spectroscopy of 2008ev (cf. CBET 1468) and 2008ew (cf. CBET 1469) obtained with the Nordic Optical Telescope (+ ALFOSC; range 350-900 nm, resolution 0.8 nm) on Aug. 17.88 and 17.93 UT. The fully reduced spectrum of 2008ew shows it to be a young type-I supernova; cross-correlation of the fully reduced spectrum with a library of supernova spectra using the "Supernova Identification" code (Blondin and Tonry 2007, Ap.J. 666, 1024) indicates that 2008ew is a type-Ic object, rather similar to that of SN 2004aw (cf. IAUCs 8310, 8331). The spectrum of 2008ev reveals it to be a type-II supernova.
