Electronic Telegram No. 1475 Central Bureau for Astronomical Telegrams INTERNATIONAL ASTRONOMICAL UNION M.S. 18, Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, Cambridge, MA 02138, U.S.A. IAUSUBS@CFA.HARVARD.EDU or FAX 617-495-7231 (subscriptions) CBAT@CFA.HARVARD.EDU (science) URL http://www.cfa.harvard.edu/iau/cbat.html SUPERNOVA 2008fa IN NGC 6722 Peter Marples, Loganholme, Queensland, Australia, reports his discovery of an apparent supernova (red mag 17.6, measured by C. Drescher of Brisbane) on 25-s unfiltered CCD images (limiting mag about 18.5) taken on Aug. 20.458 and 20.50 UT with a 30-cm f/7 reflector. The new object is located at R.A. = 19h03m40s.52, Decl. = -64o53'21".1 (equinox 2000.0), which is 7" east and 20" north of the center of the galaxy NGC 6722 (position measured by S. Quirk from an image taken by himself with a 31.5-cm reflector at Mudgee, N.S.W., Australia, on Aug. 20.48, providing red mag 17.0 for 2008fa). Marples and L. A. G. Monard (Pretoria, South Africa) add that nothing appears at this position on other reference images showing this galaxy, with Monard noting a limiting red mag of approximately 20.5 for a Digitized Sky Survey image. Additional approximate unfiltered magnitudes for 2008fa: Aug. 4, [18.0 (Marples); 21.845, 17.5 (Monard); 22.427, 17.5 (Marples).
