Baade, European Southern Observatory (ESO); A. Clocchiatti, Pontificia Universidad Catolica de Chile (PUC); J. Maund, Dark Cosmology Centre, Copenhagen; F. Patat, ESO; and J. Quinn, PUC, report that 2008fl (cf. CBETs 1498, 1508) and 2008fp (cf. CBET 1506) were observed with the ESO's Very Large Telescope on Sept. 14 and 16 UT. Preliminary reduction shows that both are type-Ia supernovae. A strong Na I D line from the host galaxy is observed for 2008fp. The absorption minima of the Si 635.5-nm feature are observed to be at blueshifts of 10800 and 11000 km/s for 2008fl and 2008fp, respectively, after corrections for the host-galaxy redshifts. The host-galaxy redshift for 2008fl was taken from de Vaucouleurs et al. (Third Reference Catalogue of Bright Galaxies, ver. 3.9; via NED); the host-galaxy redshift for 2008fp was measured to be 1700 km/s from the interstellar Na I D line. R. Martin, Perth Observatory, reports the detection of SN 2008fp at red mag 14.5 +/- 0.3 in a pre-discovery image taken on Sept. 9.82 UT.
