Quinn, Pontificia Universidad Catolica de Chile (PUC); D. Baade, European Southern Observatory (ESO); A. Clocchiatti, PUC; J. Maund, Dark Cosmology Centre, Copenhagen; F. Patat, ESO; and L. Wang, Texas A&M University report that 2008fq (cf. CBET 1507) was observed with the ESO Very Large Telescope on Sept. 18 UT. Spectra were taken with the FORS instrument in polarization mode (PMOS) using the GG435 filter. Preliminary reduction shows 2008fq to be a young type-II supernova. The spectrum exhibits conspicuous H-alpha and H-beta lines with a rather unusual narrow P-Cyg profile with the absorption minimum blueshifted by 670 km/s and superimposed on a more diffuse absorption that is itself blueshifted by more than 7500 km/s. The Na I line show similarly complex profiles. These data suggest the existence of multiple shells in the supernova ejecta, caused probably by ejecta-CSM interaction.
