Electronic Telegram No. 1514 Central Bureau for Astronomical Telegrams INTERNATIONAL ASTRONOMICAL UNION M.S. 18, Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, Cambridge, MA 02138, U.S.A. IAUSUBS@CFA.HARVARD.EDU or FAX 617-495-7231 (subscriptions) CBAT@CFA.HARVARD.EDU (science) URL http://www.cfa.harvard.edu/iau/cbat.html SUPERNOVA 2008ft IN PGC 64319 T. G. Tan (Mt. Claremont, Western Australia) reports his discovery of an apparent supernova on 20-s CCD images taken on Aug. 29.51 and Sept. 1.52 UT with a Celestron C9.25 Schmidt-Cassegrain f/10 reflector (+ 0.63x reducer + Artemis ART-285 CCD camera + Schuler V filter; image scale 2" per pixel); he measured mag 15.5 on the second date, along with the following precise position for 2008ft: R.A. = 20h13m59s.96, Decl. = -44o21'07".8 (equinox 2000.0), which is 39" east and 1" south (clearly separated) of the nucleus of the galaxy PGC 64319 (ESO 284-G32); nothing is visible at this position on a U.K. Schmidt Telescope Unit plate from 1995 May 31 (limiting red mag roughly 18, via USNO-A2.0 catalogue reference stars). This same object has been independently discovered at mag approximately 15.1 +/- 0.1 by G. Pignata, J. Maza, M. Hamuy, R. Antezana, L. Gonzalez, P. Gonzalez, P. Lopez, S. Silva, G. Folatelli, D. Iturra, R. Cartier, and F. Forster, Universidad de Chile; and D. Reichart, K. Ivarsen, A. Crain, D. Foster, M. Nysewander, and A. LaCluyze, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, on two R-band images taken via the CHASE project on Sept. 18.03 UT with the 0.41-m 'PROMPT 5' telescope located at Cerro Tololo. They measure the position of 2008ft as R.A. = 20h13m59s.89 +/- 0".1, Decl. = -44o21'05".5 +/- 0".1 (equinox 2000), which is about 39".0 east and 1".3 south from the nucleus of the galaxy ESO 284-G32. Nothing is visible at this position on archival images taken on July 9.22 and Aug. 1.16 (limiting mag 18.0). Following posting on the Central Bureau's unconfirmed-objects webpage, C. Jacques and E. Pimentel, Belo Horizonte, Brazil, report that a 60-s unfiltered CCD image (limiting mag 17.0) of 2008ft, taken on Sept. 25.11 UT with a 30-cm f/3.0 Schmidt-Cassegrain reflector at the CEAMIG-REA Observatory, yields mag 16.0 and position end figures 59s.88, 05".4. Nothing is visible at this position on a Digitized Sky Survey image from 1995 May 31 (limiting red mag 19.5).
