Crain, D. Foster, M. Nysewander, and A. LaCluyze, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, on behalf of the CHASE project, report the discovery of an apparent supernova (mag approximately 16.3 +/- 0.2) on an R-band image taken on Oct. 20.15 UT with the 0.41-m 'PROMPT 5' telescope located at Cerro Tololo. SN 2008gl is located at R.A. = 1h20m54s.82 +/- 0".1, Decl. = +4o48'19".1 +/- 0".1 (equinox 2000.0), which is about 19".7 east and 13".7 north of center of the galaxy UGC 881. The new object is also present at mag approximately 16.2 +/- 0.2 in an image taken on Oct. 21.03. Nothing is visible at this position on archival images taken on Sept. 13.26 (limiting mag 18.0) and Oct. 1.21 (limiting mag 17.5).
