Silverman, B. E. Cobb, R. Chornock, and A. V. Filippenko, University of California, Berkeley, report that inspection of CCD spectra (range 340-1000 nm), obtained on Nov. 7 UT with the 3-m Shane reflector (+ Kast) at Lick Observatory, shows that 2008gs (CBET 1559) is a type-Ia supernova; cross-correlation with a library of supernova spectra using the "SuperNova IDentification" code (SNID; Blondin and Tonry 2007, Ap.J. 666, 1024) indicates that 2008gs is 1-2 months past maximum light. SN 2008gt (CBET 1559) is a normal type-Ia supernova, about 1 week past maximum light, according to SNID. SN 2008gu (CBET 1559) is a type-II supernova, 1-2 months after explosion. SN 2008gx (CBET 1561) is a type-II (possibly IIb) supernova within a week or two after explosion.
