Benetti, Istituto Nazionale di Astrofisica, Osservatorio Astronomico di Padova; and W. Boschin and H. Harutyunyan, Telescopio Nazionale Galileo (TNG), report that a spectrum of 2008gz (cf. CBET 1566), obtained on Nov. 11.25 UT with the 3.5-m TNG reflector (+ DOLORES; range 340-800 nm, resolution 1.0 nm), shows it to be a type-II supernova several weeks after explosion. The best fit to this spectrum found by GELATO (Harutyunyan et al. 2008, A.Ap. 488, 383) is with a spectrum of SN 1998A (cf. Pastorello et al. 2005, MNRAS 360, 950) at 62 days after explosion. Adopting a recession velocity of 1862 km/s for the host galaxy (RC3; via NED), the expansion velocity deduced from the H-alpha absorption is about 6600 km/s.
