Harutyunyan, Telescopio Nazionale Galileo (TNG); S. Benetti and L. Tomasella, Istituto Nazionale di Astrofisica-Osservatorio Astronomico di Padova, report that a noisy spectrum of 2008hg (cf. CBET 1571), obtained on Nov. 19.03 UT with the 3.5-m TNG (+ DOLORES; range 360-770 nm, resolution 1.0 nm), shows it to be a type-II supernova about one week after explosion. The best fit to this spectrum found by GELATO (Harutyunyan et al. 2008, A.Ap. 488, 383) is with a spectrum of SN 1999em at 11 days after explosion (Elmhamdi et al. 2003, MNRAS 338, 939). Adopting a recession velocity of 5684 km/s for the host galaxy (Mathewson and Ford 1996, Ap.J. Suppl. 107, 97; via NED), the expansion velocity deduced from the H-alpha absorption is about 9500 km/s.
