Puckett, Ellijay, GA, U.S.A. and A. Langoussis, Atlanta, GA, U.S.A., report the discovery of an apparent supernova (mag 14.3) on unfiltered CCD images (limiting mag 19.3) taken with a 0.60-m reflector at Ellijay on Dec. 6.22 UT in the course of the Puckett Observatory Supernova Search. The new object was confirmed at mag 14.3 on images (limiting mag 18.6) taken by T. Orff on Dec. 7.13 with a 0.60-m reflector at Ellijay. SN 2008hy is located at R.A. = 3h45m08s.45, Decl. = +76o39'55".5 (equinox 2000.0), which is 30" west and 97" north of the center of IC 334. Nothing is visible at this position on images taken by Puckett on Nov. 11 (limiting mag 18.5).
