IAUC 7373), of an apparent supernova (mag about 15.8) on two unfiltered CCD images (limiting mag about 18.5) taken with a 25-cm Ritchey-Chretien Cassegrain "GRAS15" remote-controlled telescope of the GRAS System at Moorook, Australia, on Dec. 2.75 UT. The new object -- which was confirmed at mag about 16.0 via seven images (limiting magnitude about 19.0) taken on Dec. 5.75 with a remote-controlled 36-cm Schmidt- Cassegrain telescope of the "SkyLive System" at Grove Creek, Australia -- is located at R.A. = 12h52m37s.94, Decl. = -39o01'32".6 (equinox 2000.0), which is about 11" west and 10" north of the nucleus of the apparent host galaxy (ESO 323-25) and very close to a faint H II region located on an arm of the galaxy (though 2008ib is about 1" east and 1" north of the H II region; C. Jacques measures position end figures 37s.88, 33".7 for the H II region). No stars are visible at the position of 2008ib on archival images taken in May 2006 (limiting mag about 18.5) or on Palomar Sky Survey red and infrared plates. Additional GRAS15 magnitudes for 2008ib: Dec. 7.74, 16.2 (limiting mag 19.0); 8.75, 16.2 (limiting mag 18.0); 9.75, 16.3 (limiting mag 18.5). The image of 2008ib from Dec. 7.74 has been posted at the following website URL: http://www.cortinastelle.it/cross/ESO323-025_20081207.jpg.
