Electronic Telegram No. 1658 Central Bureau for Astronomical Telegrams INTERNATIONAL ASTRONOMICAL UNION M.S. 18, Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, Cambridge, MA 02138, U.S.A. IAUSUBS@CFA.HARVARD.EDU or FAX 617-495-7231 (subscriptions) CBAT@CFA.HARVARD.EDU (science) URL http://www.cfa.harvard.edu/iau/cbat.html SUPERNOVAE 2008iq, 2009A, AND 2009F M. Stritzinger, Las Campanas Observatory (LCO); and V. Stanishev, Centro Multidisciplinar de Astrofisica, Instituto Superior Tecnico, Lisbon, on behalf of the Carnegie Supernova Project, report that a spectrum (range 380-940 nm) of 2008iq (cf. CBET 1642), obtained on Jan. 5.1 UT with the 6.5-m Magellan II (Clay) telecope (+ LDSS3) at LCO, reveals it to be a type-Ia supernova around two weeks past maximum; adopting a host-galaxy recession velocity of 21798 km/s (SDSS data release 2) for the host galaxy (SDSS J103926.99+050524.4), Si II is measured to be blue-shifted by roughly 9000 km/s. Stritzinger adds that he also obtained spectra (as above) on Jan. 5.1-5.2 of 2009A (cf. CBETs 1645 and 1651) and 2009F (cf. CBET 1650). SN 2009A is a type-IIp supernova around two weeks past explosion; comparison with a library of spectra, via the "Supernova Identification" program (Blondin and Tonry 2007, Ap.J. 666, 1024), indicates that 2009A is similar to spectra of SN 2004et around 14 days past explosion. SN 2009F appears to be a young type-Ia supernova around a week before maximum light; adopting a host-galaxy recession velocity of 3884 km/s (Huchra et al. 1993, A.J. 105, 1637) for the host galaxy (NGC 1725), Si II is measured to be blue-shifted by roughly 12000 km/s. Editor's note: this item was to have been published on Jan. 5 as CBET 1654, but a computer glitch prevented its release until now (and another item was issued on CBET 1654); therefore, the reference to CBET 1654 on CBET 1657 was intended to refer to the report above.
