Benetti, Istituto Nazionale di Astrofisica, Osservatorio Astronomico di Padova; S. Valenti, Belfast University; and A. Magazzu and A. Harutyunyan, Telescopio Nazionale Galileo (TNG), report that a spectrum of 2009H (cf. CBET 1656), obtained on Jan. 19.95 UT with the 3.5-m TNG (+ DOLORES; range 400-900 nm, resolution 1.0 nm), shows it to be that of a highly reddened type-II supernova about one week after explosion. The best fit to this spectrum found by GELATO (Harutyunyan et al. 2008, A.Ap. 488, 383) is with early spectra of SN 2005cs at several days after explosion (Pastorello et al. 2006, MNRAS 370, 1752). The expansion velocity, deduced from the H-alpha FWHM, is about 11500 km/s. E. Prosperi, Castelmartini, Italy, reports unfiltered CCD magnitude 16.8 for SN 2009H on Jan. 16.857 UT (0.35-m f/10 Schmidt-Cassegrain reflector).
