Electronic Telegram No. 1673 Central Bureau for Astronomical Telegrams INTERNATIONAL ASTRONOMICAL UNION M.S. 18, Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, Cambridge, MA 02138, U.S.A. Challis, Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics (CfA), on behalf of the CfA Supernova Group, reports that a spectrum (range 320-850 nm) of 2009N (cf. CBET 1670), obtained on Jan. 25 UT by P. Berlind with the F. L. Whipple Observatory 1.5-m telescope (+ FAST), shows it to be a type-II supernova. Cross-correlation with a library of supernova spectra using the "Supernova Identification" code (SNID; Blondin and Tonry 2007, Ap.J. 666, 1024) indicates that the spectrum of 2009N best matches the spectrum of the type-IIP supernova 2005cs at two days after maximum light. W. Wells, Oklahoma City, reports magnitude V = 16.2 +/- 0.1 from an image taken remotely using a 25.4-cm reflector at Moorook, Australia, on Jan. 25.737 UT; he has posted the image at the following website URL: http://www.flickr.com/photos/32839122@N02/3226678886/.
